From 7f2b5e8e570cc1c6f783af80de083bde7c1ffc8c Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Massimiliano Culpo Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2022 01:45:24 +0200 Subject: `spack.repo.get()` can only be called on concrete specs (#31411) The goal of this PR is to make clearer where we need a package object in Spack as opposed to a package class. We currently instantiate a lot of package objects when we could make do with a class. We should use the class when we only need metadata, and we should only instantiate and us an instance of `PackageBase` at build time. Modifications: - [x] Remove the `spack.repo.get` convenience function (which was used in many places, and not really needed) - [x] Use `spack.repo.path.get_pkg_class` wherever possible - [x] Try to route most of the need for `spack.repo.path.get` through `Spec.package` - [x] Introduce a non-data descriptor, that can be used as a decorator, to have "class level properties" - [x] Refactor unit tests that had to be modified to reduce code duplication - [x] `Spec.package` and `Repo.get` now require a concrete spec as input - [x] Remove `RepoPath.all_packages` and `Repo.all_packages` --- lib/spack/llnl/util/lang.py | 12 + lib/spack/spack/audit.py | 68 ++-- lib/spack/spack/bootstrap.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/build_systems/python.py | 29 +- lib/spack/spack/build_systems/r.py | 32 +- lib/spack/spack/build_systems/racket.py | 9 +- lib/spack/spack/ci.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/blame.py | 4 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/checksum.py | 4 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/clean.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/dependents.py | 8 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/dev_build.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/develop.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/extensions.py | 10 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/external.py | 29 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/info.py | 9 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/list.py | 48 +-- lib/spack/spack/cmd/mirror.py | 2 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/patch.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/resource.py | 2 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/restage.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/stage.py | 7 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/url.py | 29 +- lib/spack/spack/cmd/versions.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/cray_manifest.py | 4 +- lib/spack/spack/detection/path.py | 4 +- lib/spack/spack/environment/environment.py | 9 +- lib/spack/spack/graph.py | 7 +- lib/spack/spack/hash_types.py | 10 +- lib/spack/spack/installer.py | 1 + lib/spack/spack/mirror.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/package_base.py | 196 ++++------- lib/spack/spack/package_prefs.py | 25 +- lib/spack/spack/patch.py | 14 +- lib/spack/spack/repo.py | 32 +- lib/spack/spack/solver/asp.py | 11 +- lib/spack/spack/spec.py | 30 +- lib/spack/spack/tag.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/test/build_systems.py | 382 ++++++++------------- lib/spack/spack/test/buildrequest.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/test/buildtask.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/checksum.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/dev_build.py | 15 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/develop.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/env.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/external.py | 4 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/location.py | 11 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/mirror.py | 8 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cmd/tags.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/test/concretize.py | 22 +- lib/spack/spack/test/config.py | 9 +- lib/spack/spack/test/conftest.py | 3 +- lib/spack/spack/test/cvs_fetch.py | 22 +- lib/spack/spack/test/database.py | 6 +- lib/spack/spack/test/directory_layout.py | 19 +- lib/spack/spack/test/flag_handlers.py | 143 +++----- lib/spack/spack/test/git_fetch.py | 100 +++--- lib/spack/spack/test/hg_fetch.py | 20 +- lib/spack/spack/test/install.py | 131 +++---- lib/spack/spack/test/installer.py | 35 +- lib/spack/spack/test/mirror.py | 14 +- lib/spack/spack/test/modules/common.py | 41 +-- lib/spack/spack/test/multimethod.py | 207 +++++------ lib/spack/spack/test/package_class.py | 70 ++-- lib/spack/spack/test/package_sanity.py | 50 +-- lib/spack/spack/test/packages.py | 292 ++++++---------- lib/spack/spack/test/packaging.py | 5 +- lib/spack/spack/test/patch.py | 7 +- lib/spack/spack/test/repo.py | 19 +- lib/spack/spack/test/spec_dag.py | 10 +- lib/spack/spack/test/svn_fetch.py | 20 +- lib/spack/spack/test/url_fetch.py | 41 +-- lib/spack/spack/test/util/package_hash.py | 19 +- lib/spack/spack/util/mock_package.py | 3 + lib/spack/spack/variant.py | 12 +- lib/spack/spack/version.py | 2 +- .../builtin.mock/packages/multimethod/package.py | 14 +- var/spack/repos/builtin/packages/gcc/package.py | 5 +- .../packages/simmetrix-simmodsuite/package.py | 318 ++++++++--------- 79 files changed, 1239 insertions(+), 1560 deletions(-) diff --git a/lib/spack/llnl/util/lang.py b/lib/spack/llnl/util/lang.py index b3236fa0e7..463310b7a2 100644 --- a/lib/spack/llnl/util/lang.py +++ b/lib/spack/llnl/util/lang.py @@ -1072,3 +1072,15 @@ class GroupedExceptionForwarder(object): # Suppress any exception from being re-raised: # https://docs.python.org/3/reference/datamodel.html#object.__exit__. return True + + +class classproperty(object): + """Non-data descriptor to evaluate a class-level property.
